Soundproofing an Attic Studio
Sector: Domestic
Location: St. Werberghs, Bristol
Project: Attic Ceiling and Floor Soundproofing
Client Request:
“Convert Attic Space into a comfortable Soundproof Studio space, retaining some original features, and create a great environment to spend hours working in.”
The Project:
A friend approached us with a great project proposal: to covert and upgrade his attic roominto a comfortable, soundproof music studio that wouldn’t disturb the neighbours. The attic was in a Victorian terraced house, converted historically, therefore building regulation/planning was not necessary. We began by stripping the entire room, starting with an empty canvass to install our soundproofing materials.
The floor was insulated with 100mm Rockwool with Cellecta Deckfon T&G flooring installed over joist. The ceiling and walls benefited from our NR1000C/W system which is achieved using a combination of rw45. Rockwool, double interlocking soundblocker boards – fixed to a maxi resilient bar system, offering isolation from the roof rafters, and helping to reduce vibration transfer.
The party walls were re-pointed for overall ascetics, and the loft also benefited from ‘industrial style’ radiators & electric plug points.
The Result:
We were all thrilled with the overall appearance of this Attic Music Studio upon finishing this project. The investment in soundproof panels & soundproof flooring was essential to our client, allowing him to work long hours, sometimes late into the evening, without disturbing his neighbours. We thoroughly enjoyed this succesful project from start to finish.
